I will be honest and say I’ve never heard his music before. I looked him up because he passed away on February 4 at the age of 80 and he was a very popular and in-demand trumpet player (http://www.salon.com/2013/02/11/jazz_pioneer_donald_byrd_dies/). He played ‘hard bop and jazz-funk fusion. Here is some music from a ‘Best Of’ album.
