Another highlight of the trip.
Freckles. I fell in love with this dog.
Apparently, or so the story goes, Freckles lived on a Ranch run by “an Apache,” who spent all his time and money managing the livestock on the ranch, and let the dogs fend for themselves.
A friend was visiting the ranch, and when he left, Freckles followed his truck and the friend, instead of taking him back to the ranch, took him to a local bar… someone inside the bar saw this friend dump Freckles in front of the bar and take off.
The bar owner looked after Freckles for a while, and when Present Owner stopped by (he is a carpenter who had done lots of work on the bar) Bar Owner asked Present Owner if he would take Freckles and take care of him.
Freckles needed a lot of love and care, but grew to be a most loyal companion to Present Owner.
On one occasion, Present Owner was visiting bar with Freckles in tow, and Ranch Runner came by and said, “Hey that’s my dog!”
Present Owner told Ranch Runner that if he wanted to pay Present Owner the $500 which Present Owner had invested in Freckles’ health, he was welcome to take Freckles back.
Ranch Runner said “Well, Freckles looks pretty happy with you, why don’t you keep him.”
Or so the story went… when really, all I meant to find out was “how long have you had Freckles?”
Anyway. Freckles is my new girlfriend. I am going bi-specie-al.
